Challenge Rules

  • Teams will comprise of up to 3 students and 1 school teacher
  • Participants must register under only 1 category:
    • Junior: students aged 13 to 16 years
    • Senior: students aged 17 to 19 years
  • Only students of Singapore Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, ITEs or Singapore-based foreign schools (aged 13 to 19 years at the time of entry) are eligible
  • If a team comprises of both Junior and Senior students, the team will be registered under the Senior category
  • Teams can only submit 1 entry each
  • Schools can send in as many teams as they want
  • Entries without the following information will be judged as incomplete and disqualified:
    • 1 write-up (max 1,000 words; in MS-Word or PDF)
    • Personal details (Entry Name, Team Name, Leader Name, Leader NRIC, Team Members, School, Teacher Name, Teacher NRIC, valid email address)
  • Entries submitted after these deadlines will be disqualified:
    • 22 Aug: Preliminary ideas for shortlisting
    • 26 Sep: Finalists’ Presentation videos
  • Judges will evaluate ideas and finalists using this judging criteria.
  • The judges will select 8 finalists from Junior and Senior categories each. There will be a total of 16 finalists
  • All judges’ decisions are final
  • Teams should provide proof (e.g. student card) that they are studying in their reported institution or they will be disqualified
  • We reserve the right to make any changes to the challenge without prior notice. Other terms and conditions apply

Challenge Categories


Junior Category

Open to all secondary students.

There is no limit to the number of entries from any Secondary School. All entries shall be done by a team consisting of up to 3 students and 1 school teacher. We'll only accept 1 entry per team. However, schools can send in multiple teams.


Senior Category

Open to all post-secondary students.

This includes students at Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, Institutes of Technical Education or Singapore-based foreign schools. All entries shall be done by a team consisting of up to 3 students and 1 school teacher. We'll only accept 1 entry per team. However, schools can send in multiple teams.

Submission Formats

Please submit your idea in the following formats. It will help us greatly in assessing your idea.


Preliminary Round

All teams must submit a write-up (max: 1,000 words; in MS-Word or PDF). You can illustrate your write-up with 2 images (.jpg or .jpeg; max size: 1MB) and/or a video link (e.g. Upload it to YouTube, VideoJug or Vimeo; max length: 2 min).

Deadline: 22 Aug 2011


Finale

Finalist teams should create a prototype, or a 3D image, or whatever it takes to present their idea. Each team must produce a short video clip (max: 10min) of their project, to be submitted a week before the Finale event. The videos will be assessed by our judging panel prior to the Finale.
