Meet the Creators of Tomorrow
for the Challenge
Justin Chiam
Assistant Manager (Continuing Airworthiness Management)
Base Maintenance Division, Production
Planning Control Operations
SIA Engineering
Creator of Tomorrow
Justin was lucky enough to land his dream job soon after graduation. As a child, he was always fascinated by planes, amazed by how such a massive structure could maneuver in the skies so effortlessly. It's a thrill that continues to give him an adrenalin rush and also a deep sense of satisfaction everytime an aircraft is re-delivered.
“The fun,” he says “comes from getting to plan and track the progress of aircraft checks coming into the hangar.
“There are so many variables in a check such as shortage of spares, unexpected findings, and insufficient ground time that add to the job's challenge. People skills are a pre-requisite to successfully deal with so many different people and it is certainly not a job for the faint-hearted or weak-willed!”
To date Justin has earned quite a few feathers in his cap. He was part of the team that handled the redelivery of 25 aircraft within a record of 3 years. He also has the distinction of being posted to Airbus Production Plant in Toulouse, France to perform Customer Production Inspection (CPI) for a Customer's new A320. After Justin's tenure at Quality & Safety, he was posted to the CEO's Office for a stint as Staff Assistant, to gain exposure to management issues, strategic business planning and business development initiatives.

In fact, the man is responsible for ensuring the reliability of the A380 fleet of aircraft. This includes monitoring of critical modification and fleet improvement programs while balancing maintenance cost.
He says “An essential part of the technical services engineer’s role is to engage manufacturers and vendors to develop technical solutions for in-service issues. At the same time, we also implement mitigating programs to minimise risk exposure to SIA’s aircraft fleet.”
